Get up close to the Sun

The SUN is an awe inspiring 3D recreation of the Sun. Created by public artist Alex Rinsler and Professor Robert Walsh , professor of Astrophysics at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), the Sun is making its debut at the STEAM museum in Swindon, from the 13th- 19th February 2023  as part of the Festival of Tomorrow.

Stories written in stardust

'Stories written in stardust' is a free, bookable, immersive art exhibition created by local artist, Harrie Dearing, using projection mapping technology

The experience is hosted in the atmospheric small pool of the historic Health Hydro in Swindon as part of the Festival of Tomorrow About Town programme during February half-term.

Rap Science Challenge

We teamed up with Jon Chase, science rapper, and the Institute of Physics, to challenge young people in Swindon to tell us what they want science to tackle for their future.

They could rap, sing, present, perform a demo or tell a story. No powerpoint allowed, just them and something they were passionate about.  Jon picked his favourite, which was streamed live at the online Festival of Tomorrow in 2021.

The Big Bug Bake Off!

We know that we need to decarbonize our food supply, and that means eating less meat.
 
Could insects be the answer? 
 
And would you munch on a mealworm or chomp on a crunchy cricket?
 
We invited three contestants from the National Trust, Helen Brownings Organic and the UK Space Agency to try some edible insects for themselves, and then challenged them to create a recipe to wow our team of judges.

Offering a range of activities around Swindon Town from 13-19 February, the Festival starts off with fun and breathtaking displays right across the town, before heading to the Deanery Academy, Swindon for the grand finale of explosive shows, talks, panels and exhibitors. 

All Festival activities around Town are free for everyone.

Would you live in Space?

We were excited to hear that Libby Jackson, Head of Space Exploration at the UK Space Agency, was given an OBE this month!  Libby’s a regular guest at the Festival of Tomorrow and gave a brilliant session for our 2021 online Schools’ Programme.

Based right here in Swindon, Libby looks after everything the UK does with human spaceflight.
